The 2026 Winter sports season at Mayfield was filled with surprises and happy memories. On February 19th, players, coaches, parents, managers, siblings and supporters were all able to celebrate this eventful season together over a delicious Porta Via dinner.
Along with the food, Mr. Bergen’s “Top Ten Moments” and “Favorite player to watch” is another well anticipated tradition that is appreciated by all attendants, every sports banquet. Every year, Mayfield athletes take guesses on who the sports director’s “favorite player to watch” is and what memories will make it onto his coveted list of moments. Lacey Mayer, a soccer player at Mayfield was Mr. Bergen’s favorite player to watch this season, specifically because he was proud to see her find her sport and truly embrace it on the field.
Although all of Mr. Bergen’s “Top Ten Moments” were highly memorable, the most touching moment was senior Chloe Jeng’s first and last basket made this school year. Over the summer and during the basketball season, Chloe was recovering from an ACL and Meniscus injury but during her senior night, the basketball community was able to honor her love and perseverance for the sport as we all watched her step onto the court to make a layup.
Finally, before everyone was dismissed to break off into their respective sports for individual awards, Mr. Bergen also took a moment to acknowledge the Varsity Soccer coaches, Coach Calum, and Coach Lachlan, for the commitment and care they have put into Mayfield’s successful soccer program.
Overall, this sports banquet was one filled with joy and satisfaction as athletes celebrated the final end to this eventful 2026 winter sports season.
