This past weekend, Mayfield’s Swim and Dive Team traveled to Pasadena Poly to compete in a historic Prep league finals. One third of the final score comes out of league meets that the Cubs have competed in throughout the season while the remaining two thirds come from the Prep League Finals. This season both JV and varsity were undefeated in league competition. The lead up to finals started with our phenomenal diving team who competed on Wednesday and secured 46 points for the Cubs before the swimming even began. Two of our extraordinary divers, Ann Tanaka 26’ and Kaylin Driller 27’ even advanced to CIF, extending their season even further. Following diving, the varsity Cubs competed in League Prelims on Thursday afternoon which determined who would advance to Saturday’s finals. The top 12 swimmers in each event made it to made it to finals and were able to swim on Saturday, while the top 6 contended for the championship in their event. All 16 of our Varsity cubs placed in the top twelve in their events which put the Cubs in a strong position heading into Saturday. On Saturday JV joined varsity at Pasadena Poly for an exhilarating day of racing. At the end of the meet, once all the points were counted, it was announced that Mayfield had won the Prep League Finals! All of the Cubs jumped into the pool in celebration along with the swim coaches, Coach Bergen and Coach Cario. This is the 21st consecutive championship for the JV team, and the 6th consecutive championship for varsity which is the longest winning streak in league history. The varsity Cubs also won by the largest margin in league history, finishing over 200 points ahead of every competitor. Overall the Swim and Dive team had a great season and an even better ending to it!
