Under the warm Los Angeles sun, Church leaders, parishioners and students from across the state enjoyed tables full of fresh flowers, fruit, conchas, biscuits, and warm coffee, connected in celebrating faith. This was the scene at the 20th annual Los Angeles Catholic Prayer Breakfast that took place at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
Mayfield students met at 5:30am on an early September Tuesday to attend the event that began with a rosary and then a beautiful Mass in which Mackenzie Taylor ‘26 served as a lector. Following the service, Eleanor Cockriel 26’ and Charlotte Norton 28’ opened the breakfast by leading the 1,600 person congregation in the Pledge of Allegiance. This year’s guest speaker, New York Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Espaillat, blended pop culture and Church teachings to draw attention to modern issues and propel Catholics to action. Embodying the spirit of this Jubilee Year, he united all under the fellowship of hope and love.
