Dia De Los Muertos starts on November 1st, 2024 and lasts through November 3rd. It is a holiday that allows people to remember their deceased loved ones through vibrant colors and ofrendas. At Mayfield, setting up for Dia De Los Muertos with vibrant decorations, and an altar that will display candles, flowers- specifically marigolds, and paper skulls and flowers to decorate the area is a scene for all of the Mayfield community to see. As students and teachers were setting up, Emma Ortega ‘26 said that the decorations served to encourage loved ones to visit and enjoy the altar with their favorite food, or even decoration. She also stated that the paper skulls “mocked death” meaning that we should be celebrating our deceased loved ones, and awaiting their visit. May the Spirit live on!
