Letter From the Editors: June 2023

Well Cubs, it’s official, summer is upon us and the 2022-2023 school year is coming to an end. Our Bellefontaine campus has been bustling with emotional seniors decorating their car windows

and anxious juniors taking their first AP exams. In the Digital Media room, the Mayfield Crier staff has been busier than ever as we work to assemble our End-of-the-Year print publication. The 2022-2023 school year has brought some amazing new improvements to the Crier, including the addition of our Mayfield Minute briefs and the development of the Cubs Student News broadcast. This final edition of The Crier includes some exciting movie reviews, fascinating teacher interviews, emotional Senior reflections, and more!

As the retiring Editor-in-Chief, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who read the Mayfield Crier this year. Your support and interest in the voices of the Mayfield Cubs is appreciated. Furthermore, I’d like to thank all of the Mayfield Crier staff writers: your passion for storytelling and desire to share the opinions of the Mayfield community is inspiring. Finally, thank you to all of the editors of this year’s publication, without your help The Crier could not have been published.

Hello Mayfield! Monica Zepeda and Alisa Balian here! First of all, we’d like to thank and congratulate Madison Rojas for being an amazing Editor-in-Chief and for her guidance in making the Crier so wonderful. We are so proud of her and can’t wait to see the incredible things she will accomplish next.

We’d also like to congratulate our fantastic seniors: Afton Copeland Spiegel (News Co-Editor-in-Chief), Abby Beegle (Columns Co-Editor-in-Chief), Miranda Gallegos (Reviews-Co-Editor-in-Chief), Callie Pippert (Arts and Entertainment Editor), Jackie Vargas (Technology and Media Editor), Nyla Choudry (Diversity Editor), Natalie Miera (Staff Writer), and Sophia Kroe (Staff Writer) for all of their lovely contributions to the Crier this year. We appreciate your hard work this year and wish you the best in college!

The 2022-2023 school year was very successful for the Mayfield Crier and also our website. Staff members kept the Mayfield community informed on world and also school news with article topics ranging from the Met Gala to human rights to river storms at Mayfield. “Mayfield Minutes” designed to keep Cubs up-to-date on events that are occurring right on Mayfield’s campus and, “Cubs Student News,” produced by journalism classes, have been an incredible part of bringing news to the community.

Monica and I are so beyond excited to lead the Crier this year as Editors-in-Chief and to publish incredible articles written by Mayfield’s talented writers. We’re also excited to hear from the student body and write the articles that you all want to read. We want to thank our readers for supporting the Crier this year, and we hope you’re as excited as we are for our next issues to come.

As the year comes to a close, we’d like to welcome our new editorial staff for the 2023-2024 school year! Make sure to look forward to the monthly letter from the editors written by the Crier’s new Editors-in-Chief, Monica Zepeda and Alisa Balian.
