Sport Report: Cubs Sign National Letters of Intent to Play in College
February 6 marked an exciting day for two amazing Mayfield athletes! Both Taylin Yankovich ‘20 and Evy Favretto ‘20 signed their national letters of intent to play sports in college. Favretto will be playing volleyball at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, and Yankovich will be playing softball at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
An amazing atmosphere–filled with balloons and cheering–was a great opportunity to celebrate these athletes’ hard work in their sports. The Mayfield Volleyball and Softball teams came out to support their teammates in the next step of their journey to play in college. While this is an exciting day, there are many steps along the way to get to this moment. Signing national letters of intent and the entirety of recruiting is such a difficult process.
“It does not come in one day,” said Yankovich of her long journey of hard work. “It takes years of training, emailing, and disappointment before you get to see your hard work pay off,” she said. Yankovich credited her countless coaches and different club softball teams in various games, tournaments and showcases in helping her to be more visible to college recruiting representatives.
Both graduating Mayfield athletes have the chance of a lifetime to continue their respective sports on the collegiate level. Good luck Cubs!
