There’s nothing a Mayfield student wouldn’t do for a free Porta Via lunch. But that’s not the only reason the head of the school’s office is filled during lunch. The intriguing opportunity to talk with and get to know Mrs. Farrell is something no Senior wants to miss.
At the beginning of the school year Mrs. Farrell reached out to Seniors via a SignUpGenius to secure a lunch time. Students were encouraged to sign up with a group of 4-5 friends and spots filled up quickly. When their time finally comes, small groups of cubs meet outside her office and receive their Porta Via lunch. Inside, Mrs. Farrell provides beverages for the girls and welcomes both light-hearted stories and sincere conversations.
Senior lunches are inspired by Mrs. Farrell’s desire to personally acquaint herself with the Class of 2025. “I don’t have a lot of time to get to know the senior class, so Slunch is a great time to get to know each individual so they can feel comfortable with me.” She adds that “when i give them their diploma i want to have a relationship with them.”
S-lunches have given students the chance to slow down and use some of their dwindling time left at Mayfield to bond with each other and Mrs. Farrell.
“I really enjoy connecting to Ms Farrell about non school related things” says Rachel Lee ‘25 (center).
Peyton Pegram ‘25 (far left) remarks, “I had a lot of fun having lunch with Mrs. Farrell and my friends.”
“It was really nice that she asked about our interest outside of school and there was lots of laughing,” recalls Mackenzie Younker ‘25 (far left).
Lunch included a half salad, half sandwich, and a brownie! Lemonade and iced tea were also provided for the girls. Yum!
