Each year, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels in Los Angeles celebrates young faithful students from LA Archdiocese Catholic high schools with their annual Prayer Breakfast. On September 17, 2024, Mayfield Senior School students Kennedy Taylor, Loise Wardhana, Etienne Lanchantin, Sofia Hernandez, Amelia Labrador, Elizabeth Rweyemamu, Rowan Schoettler, Lauren Wong, and Irene Zoquiapa from the Campus Ministry Council attended the breakfast. This enabled them opportunities for prayer, reflection, and a strong understanding of community.
This year, special guest Fr. Mike Schmitz presented a speech proposing that the future of a strong Catholic Church is in the hands of high school students alongside Mayfield Cubs. While this is a luxury, we must do our best to represent our Church as best as possible.
The Breakfast called on middle school students, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors of Los Angeles Catholic Schools to reflect upon “the actions they can take as young participants of the Catholic Church”.
After Fr. Mike Schmitz presented his speech, the community was allowed to mingle, creating a space of union and even sparking the reconnection of some Mayfield Students with past school administrators, friends, etc,.
We look forward to next year’s breakfast service!
