On August 27th, the Mayfield Cubs eagerly returned to Bellefontaine. Student Council welcomed students with good luck signs, red and white balloons, and Krispy Kreme donuts. Mayfield students happily greeted their friends, shared stories from summer, and took many pictures for their parents! The Class of 2025 realized that these first-week transitions were only the start of a year filled with “lasts”, and wanted to capture the bittersweet moments of their last first days of high school.
“I hope we grow closer together as the year goes by,” remarks senior class president, Lara Georgian, “I’m incredibly grateful to have such an amazing group of girls in our class.”
Little did they know, the senior room parents had a perfect way to capture the memories. After first period started, the parents snuck down to the senior parking lot with markers and cheerful spirits. They surprised the students by decorating their cars in school colors and festive phrases. Some cars said “Go Cubs,” while others read “MSS 2025” and “Senior Season.”
After school, the girls ventured down to their cars and were ecstatic to see the parking lot filled with color. They snapped photos with friends and then drove off with pride.
There is another pleasure the seniors get to relish in this year: the senior lounge. The Class of 2025 voted on the theme “Tangled,” and the art students painted murals inspired by the Disney film. The lounge is decorated with lavender ribbons, gold stars, and purple couches. To add to the senior privileges, the room parents have committed to host a senior breakfast in the lounge on the first of every month. During these special mornings, students are encouraged to share beverages and bagels together before first period.
The school year opened with the Mass of the Holy Spirit, bringing the community together and starting the year off in prayer. Father Greg Goethals presided over the gathering, vocalists sang fan favorite songs, and Head of School Laura Farell inspired students with her closing remarks. This mass was the first gathering Campus Ministry Council co-heads Chloe Capalad and Tracy Jiang planned.
“I was so grateful to have the opportunity to plan this mass,” Capalad remarked, “I can’t believe this is my last year on Campus Ministry.” Jiang adds, “Me too, being seniors is so exciting.”
The 2024-2025 school year is a bittersweet time for the senior class, but Mayfield traditions are here to ensure that it will be a year full of unforgettable memories.
