Chloe Leong, Co-Editor in Chief of Cubs Student News
Chloe Leong is a senior at Mayfield Senior School and the current Co-Editor in chief for Cubs Student News. She is part of the Advanced Journalism class and she enjoys news anchoring, editing, producing, as well as creating podcasts. Chloe has received an honorable mention in the National Public Radio High School Podcast Challenge for her collaborative podcast “I Am My Own,” which discusses what it is like to grow up as a person of color in this generation. Her podcast award placed her in the top 3% of more than 4,000 submissions from students all around the country. Outside of the Crier, Chloe is a co-head for a service club, Cubs Against Trafficking, a competitive dancer, and a musician. In her free time, she enjoys songwriting, hanging out with friends, and reading a good book. This year, Chloe is eager to see all the opportunities that Cubs Student News and the Mayfield Crier have to offer!
Lucia Carachure-Weakley, Co-Editor in Chief of Cubs Student News
Lucia Carachure-Weakley is a senior at Mayfield Senior School and the current Co-Editor in chief for Cubs Student News. She is apart of the Advanced Journalism class and loves to film footage, anchor, and make podcasts. Lucia was apart of the Film and Media conservatory at Mayfield Senior School for 2 years and has taken filmmaking classes outside of school. She has done a costume design internship and enjoys making clothes and spending time with friends and family in her free time. Lucia is looking forward to being able to express herself and explore possible career paths by being apart of Cubs Student News.
Kate Georgino, Feature Co-Editer
Kate Georgino is a senior at Mayfield Senior School and this will be her third year writing for the Mayfield Crier. Kate enjoys learning about podcasting, current events, and photography. Kate has received an honorable mention from Scholastic for her poetry and hopes to continue composing additional pieces. This year, Kate is focusing on a feature that documents her senior year. “Senior Spotlight” will highlight the important traditions that make Mayfield the special place it is. Kate is ready to explore new topics, improve her writing, and report on issues she is passionate about. Kate is eager for another fun year of reporting.
Frances Aguirre, Cubs Student News Editor-In-Chief
Frances Aguirre is a Senior at Mayfield. She is currently in her third year of journalism, and is a reporter and the Editor-in-Chief of Cubs Student News. Outside of journalism, Frances has been on the Mayfield swim team since freshman year. This year she is excited to continue her writing, gain new skills, and guide the new journalism students.
Sophie Limongelli, Feature Co-Editer
Sophie Limongelli is a senior at Mayfield Senior School. This is her second year writing for The Mayfield Crier. Last year, in her Journalism class, she reported for Cubs Student News and learned about current events, podcasting, and column writing. She has a leadership role in Campus Ministry Council and is the head of an environmental club! Sophie enjoys interviews, localized news reporting, and is eager to try new things. This year, she is the Feature Co-Editor, focusing on her piece “Senior Scrapbook.” This column will highlight beloved traditions and events that make Senior year so special. Sophie is looking forward to another year of reporting!
Sofia Hesling, Opinion Editor
Sofia Hesling is a junior at Mayfield Senior School and this is her second on the Mayfield Crier. She looks forward to enhancing her writing skills on the newspaper and outside of Journalism, Sofia enjoys representing Mayfield in sports on Athletic Leadership council and in water polo and swim. She participates in many service oriented clubs such as Campus Ministry and Cubs in Scrubs and looks forward to publishing more articles on the Mayfield Crier.
Sofia Tomczyk, Cubs Student News Reporter
Sofia Tomczyk is a sophomore at Mayfield Senior School. She is passionate about journalism and learning new stories from all different perspectives. She is in Beginning Journalism is apart of the Mayfield Crier and Cub Student News. She also participates in many extracurricular activities outside of school such as attending Saturday classes in Spanish and practicing soccer and swimming. She is also a part of the Campus Ministry at Mayfield Senior and takes part in many clubs at school such as Cubs in Scrubs, Cubs Clean the Coast, and H.O.T. Club.
Olivia Dixon, Cubs Student News Editor-In-Chief
Olivia Dixon is a senior at Mayfield Senior School. This is her second year writing for the Mayfield Crier and being a part of Cub Student News. This year, she is the Editor-in-Chief of Cub Student News, and is excited to lead the new staff. Outside of journalism, Olivia participates in Saint Francis cheerleading, where she is a team captain and cheers at every football game. She participates in many clubs, and is the head of the Cubs Clean the Coast club. This year, her main goal is to improve her writing skills and learn about new topics. Olivia is so excited to see what is in store for this year!
Amy Tanaka, Managing Editer
Amy Tanaka is a senior at Mayfield Senior School and the Managing Editor-in-Chief of the Mayfield Crier. Although she hopes to study engineering in college, she is extremely passionate about writing. She was in the Creative Writing Conservatory freshman and sophomore year, and transitioned to Advanced Journalism and Newspaper junior year, where she realized that she preferred to write about more practical topics. At Mayfield Senior School, Amy is a member of the Varsity Tennis team, the Instrumental Conservatory, and the Math Modeling team. She is also a co-head of Arts Council, the AAPI Club/Affinity Liaison of SJLC, and the head of the Sustainability Club. Outside of school, Amy enjoys playing the piano and doing volunteer construction work.
Kennedy Taylor, Cubs Student News Sports Editor
Kennedy Taylor is a junior at Mayfield Senior School and is Mayfield’s Student Sports Editor. This is her 2nd year contributing to the crier, both as a member of the Advanced Journalism class and contributor of Cub Student News. In years past she’s published stories, podcasts, reviews, photography, and video segments mostly pertaining to athletics. Outside of Newspaper, Kennedy plays softball on a travel team and for the school, is a co-head of SPAM, loves cooking and spending time with her sisters and friends. Kennedy is excited about expanding Mayfield's athletic representation and growing interest in Mayfield sports.
Carolyn Freese, Cubs Student News Producer
Carolyn Freese is a senior at Mayfield Senior School and in addition to being part of the Crier staff since junior year, she is the producer of Cub Student News. Carolyn has many passions and enjoys being part of all aspects of the community. Along with writing, Carolyn loves being involved in the arts community as a photographer and photography representative for the Arts Council. Moreover, as a catechism teacher's assistant, Rosebuds tutoring volunteer, RAD Camp volunteer, retreat leader, and sacristan Campus Ministry ministry leader, Carolyn loves sharing her passion for learning and academic, spiritual, and personal growth for everyone. Some of her favorite hobbies are photography, reading, cooking, and listening to music! She is so excited to continue sharing news with others this year!
Christine Ellis, Cubs Student News Reporter
Christine Ellis is a junior at Mayfield Senior School. She is currently enrolled in Advanced Journalism, and has contributed to the crier for two years. She works on the Cubs Student News team as a reporter and editor. Last year, Christine worked on poetry writing, podcasting, and localized news reporter and her goal is to improve her writing and experience as a journalist! Christine is excited for what this year has in store!
