Dawning brand new blazers two sizes too big, the freshmen class stepped into shiny black loafers, slung backpacks onto their shoulders, and headed out the door to their new school year. Mothers and fathers made sure to get pictures of their first emotion-filled day. A warm welcome to the class of 27 by the student council and Mayfield’s new head of school, Mrs. Laura Farrell melted some of the nerves away.
“The first day of school was a welcoming experience with helpful staff to guide me,” said Francesca Nieves ‘27.
The first day of school was definitely exciting, but it was also an adjustment. Trying to navigate a new place while meeting all of our new classmates was quite nerve-wracking.
“It was a hectic day trying to figure out getting to classes and navigating Mayfield for the first time,” said Phyllis Knoll ‘27. “Still, it was also enjoyable, being with friends, and the pizza was really good too!”
The moment we stepped foot into Strub Hall, we knew this was where we were meant to be, Mayfield would be our home for the next four years, and so on. Freshman made the most of the first day and their new “home,” for the next four years. “The first day of school was very exciting, and teachers were scary at first,” said Natalia Galaviz ‘27, but they have become less scary as the weeks went on.”
